Teaching Philosophy

My approach to teaching is informed by a radical tradition. I understand teaching as an opportunity to engage people in the process of thinking about how change occurs and challenging them to reflect on how education transforms them through learning. Learning is just one form of change, and being intentional about active reflection in learning environments sets a foundation for how students can have an impact in other arenas that matter to them. My commitments as a student-centered educator and my training as a community-engaged scholar intersect in the classroom. My teaching emphasizes assignments and classroom activities that challenge students to engage with the process of learning and grapple with the implications of the content they are expected to master for the course.
